Breeds on Sakhalin and s. Kuril Is. and the adjacent coast of se. Siberia (Soviet Far East, s. Ussuriland on Furugeln Is. s. of Vladivostok), n. Korea, ne. China (Liaoning, Gulf of Chihli, Yellow Sea, s. to Kiangsu), Japan (nw., ne. and s. Hokkaido at Yurui-to, Moyururi, Shiretoko Peninsula and Teuri-jima, w. and n. Honshu).
Winters along the coasts of Korea, China (s. to Fukien) and Japan from Honshu and Kyushu s. to the Ryukyu Is. and Taiwan.
