Three widely separated populations;
(1) Alaska Peninsula.
Winters along the Pacific coast from s. Washington s. to c. California.
(2) Great Plains of Canada from c. Alberta, c. Saskatchewan, s. Manitoba and n. Ontario s. to the United States in c. Montana, ne. Colorado, c. North Dakota and nw. Minnesota. An isolated population occurs at sw. James Bay.
Formerly s. to Iowa and s. Wisconsin.
Winters from California and North Carolina s. to Panama. Occasionally occurs s. to n. Chile, Colombia and Venezuela. Argentina?
